The Musical (Bicycle) Messenger

I’ve worked in the Sydney CBD for the better part of the last 8 years, and over the last 4 or so of those I’ve had the pleasure of listening to a bicycle messenger who stops in between jobs to play music for strangers. He is a trumpeter, and a darn good one at that! He doesn’t refer to any sheet music (even though he has a large repertoire and changes music depending on the season), doesn’t put a hat down for people to thrown coins into etc… – he just does it because he loves his music and the enjoyment that it brings others. I ran into him today, on a particularly crappy Sydney day weather-wise. It was ‘blowing a gale’ as we say and raining intermittently. Not a good day for musical messengers.

Dressing appropriately for the weather!

He used his umbrella to wipe the water off the top of a little traffic authority box, put his parcel box at the base to use as a step up, had his umbrella in one hand, trumpet in the other, and was bringing enjoyment to those around him 🙂

Just for the love of it

Thank you, musical messenger! 🙂
