I forgot to mention yesterday that I viewed an incredibly inspiring video documenting a young man by the name of Christopher Aiff who, because of numerous tumours throughout his body, has been advised that he has between 6 months and 2 years left to live. He is 21 years old. If you have a spare 10 minutes I would urge you to watch it. This passage from Christopher really resonated with me:

The decision to be positive is not one that disregards or belittles sadness that exists. It is rather a conscious choice to focus on the good and to cultivate happiness – genuine happiness. Happiness is not a limited resource. When we devote our energy and time to trivial matters and choose to stress over things that ultimately are insignificant, from that point we perpetuate our own sadness and lose sight of the things that really make us happy and rationalize our way out of doing amazing things.

One wave is all it takes

One wave is all it takes

Great story with this guy in the ‘onesie’ above ^. Him and a friend are trying to help people get through depression. They’ve set up a not-for-profit called ‘One wave is all it takes’ because literally getting people out there learning to surf and catching even a single wave will get their minds to a happier place. Such a great cause and so selfless. Find them on facebook.

I ran my first half-marathon last Sunday in an OK time of 1hr 35mins! I decided to run at the last minute and really enjoyed it. I might run a full marathon later in the year! Thanks to everyone who supported me – I managed to raise $600 for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

And to finish off Mother’s Day, a very hard working florist, part of a husband & wife team behind Champagne & Roses in Manly, who were already hard at work when I walked past about 6am! 😮

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all Mum’s out there, but a very special shout out to my Mum up in Queensland!

O what a feeling

Mum – forever young!

Many Mum’s sacrifice a lot for their children. Mum did all that and more for my brother and I. Dad left when I was 8 or 9 years old and Mum single-handedly raised us while running her own business. Beyond that she had so much crap to deal with from both us – fighting constantly, having the police knock on the door etc… – you get the picture. It was only many years later that I truly appreciated just what she had to go through and what a loving, compassionate and caring person Mum really is.

I’m so lucky to have you in my life Mum.

I love you.

🙂

North Head

I don’t take many landscape photos these days but thought this scene was quite beautiful. Taken at North Head, a short walk from Manly, just after 7am. 🙂

Jump!

Having lunch one day in Hyde Park when I saw “Toothy Dancer” getting up and dancing to a busker like nobody’s watching for a good 30 minutes or so. He was having an absolute blast and it didn’t matter whether or not there were people walking past poking fun at how he was dancing or that he was singing along to some of the tunes. He looked happier than everyone else around him. 🙂  (edit: I’ve uploaded a video of him in action to YouTube – see it here) (edit #2: I’ve since learned there was a documentary made about this Gentleman, and his name is Raymond. Such an inspirational guy, full of life and bringing joy to people – see it here! – credit to Peet for telling me about Raymond!)

Bit shitty about missing the focus of the girl jumping in the last photo but what can you do? I’ll try to be better prepared next time!
